Vegetarian/Vegan Food

We serve freshly cooked three meals daily (except on a weekly day off). A diet includes locally grown and mostly organic vegetables, fruits, grains, soups, nuts, and herbal teas. Our Kitchen staff prepares all the meals hygienically, with love and positivity. Vegan options are available. Participants can order their choice of Vegan vegetarian food from the ala carte menu. We suggest our participants before and after the training follow a Vegan/Vegetarian diet to have maximum benefits from the courses. We are happy to say that since many of our participants changed their eating habits and turned Vegan or Vegetarian, their health improved and energy levels increased.

Yogic Diet

What we consume directly affects our well-being and how we act, react, and function in our environment. Therefore, we need awareness of what and how we eat. A yogic diet is essentially vegetarian. It includes very light and easily digestible foods to still the mind and make the body light and unobstructed for physical asanas and pranayama practice. Eating meat potentially violates the first leg of yoga (Yamas) laid down by Patanjali (ahimsa/nonviolence)
Protein can be obtained from nuts, legumes, and dairy products. It is much easier to appreciate and get the optimal nutrition needed from one’s meals when one consumes slowly, mindfully, and from locally sourced ingredients. Thus a yogic diet is considered to be healthy, nourishing, and fulfilling not only for the physical body but also for the mind and soul. 

Useful Tips for Healthy Eating

What we consume affects our well-being and how we react and function in our environment. Therefore we need awareness of what and how we eat.

The Sattvic food promotes clarity of thoughts and calmness of mind. It is sweet, fresh agreeable. It includes fruits, nuts, vegetables, honey, milk, and grains.

Rajasic food feeds the body but promotes activity, induces restlessness of the mind, and disturbs the equilibrium of the mind. It includes spicy coffee, tea, garlic, onion, meat, fish, and processed foods.

Tamasic food induces heaviness in the body and dullness of the mind. It includes alcohol and foods that are processed, oily, over salty, stale, and overripe.

One should monitor one’s mealtimes, as eating too late at night causes indigestion. In addition, the digestive system rests when one goes to sleep. Therefore there should be at least 3 hours between your dinner and bedtime.

Food should be freshly prepared and eaten with attention, respect, and gratitude. Observe silence while eating and maintain awareness as this turns the process of eating into meditation. We should chew food well.

Fill the stomach half to three quarters with food. Leave the last quarter empty for digestion.

Drink fluids 20 minutes before and at least 20 minutes after a meal to avoid diluting the digestive juices in the stomach.

If one needs to consume fluids during the meal, avoid icy drinks that will put out the digestive ‘fire.

’Take at least one day of fasting per week by only consuming light soups, liquids, and yogurt. Allow the digestive system to recover and will enable the body to focus on purging impurities gathered in the body.

Raw food contains many microbes and enzymes our body wants for correct digestion and immunity.

Limit your meals to three daily – a moderate-sized breakfast, lunch, and a smaller dinner. Eat your dinner before 7 pm.

Drink enough water during the day, but best to 30 min before and after the meal.

Find your Ayurvedic dosha (constitution), and learn what foods to favor and avoid in your diet.

Regular exercise and yoga practice with stress-free healthy living improves digestion and overall health.
